I was culling some files today and came across a document from 2016, where I had started a list of questions to answer that would reflect things that my children or grandchildren might like to know someday. Well, that list didn’t get very far, in fact it is still a document in my files.
I am excited to say that those questions were answered and the first of this year (2022), my book of the stories of when I was growing up was
published!
A gift subscription given to
me by my eldest son and his wife for a birthday gift the first of 2021 became a
year of writing that fulfilled my dream of writing a book. Each Monday a
question would arrive in my inbox, I could choose to answer that question,
choose another or create my own question for the week.
The majority of the
questions, I wrote enough that they became individual chapters in the book.
Other questions I put together to make a chapter.
Another feature that I loved
about the program – I could add pictures that were notable to the content of
that particular chapter.
I won’t sugar-coat that year
of writing. Sometimes I would write faithfully every week, other times I would
go several weeks without writing because of work, family responsibilities and
life in general.
I have realized that the
year of writing has created a plethora of genealogy information for my family.
I would strongly recommend a subscription to a service that will help focus and
build on the content you wish to document, especially if it is of a genealogy
nature.
During the middle of the summer, my wonderful husband rented a house on High Rock Lake for a couple of days, I was able to catch up on my writing. It was the best time writing and spending time with my hubby fishing, eating out and enjoying the hot tub.
With the annual subscription
expired, I had three months to edit and finish the book. The process of
finishing the book was simple with choices of bindings, colors, front and back
covers. One of the hardest things was to write the title of the book. I wanted
something different, not just Life About Me or Jane’s Life.
The second hardest part of
the process was waiting! Everyday after I ordered the book, I would be anxious
for the mail to be delivered. After about three weeks, to box arrived with my
final creation of “Chocolate Gravy,
Tomato Biscuits and Loves of my Life”.
