North Carolina Cohabitation Records

Cohabitation Bonds are a wealth of knowledge as they often included name, age, length of time the couple had been married or living together. maybe even included the enslaver and number of children. These bonds are especially important for those researching enslaved people, People of Color or of Mixed Blood.

North Carolina General Assembly passed this Act in March of 1866 and many of the records were recorded with the Register of Deeds with each County.

The issue with many of the original records, there were no mention of race or include the word cohabitation bond/record.

Research the website North Carolina Cohabitation Records to check out these records.
